Semester 2 Report & Interviews

Dear St John the Apostle families,

Earlier this year our Semester 1 student reports were modified to reflect a period of remote learning. We weren't able to provide complete reports and used a combination of written report and parent-teacher interviews to share student progress.

The feedback was positive from both staff and parents. Staff appreciated the opportunity to give more specific and personalised feedback about student achievement. They appreciated the opportunity to speak with clarity, use examples and ensure there was a shared understanding of where to go next for each child. With the opportunity to Zoom for their child's Parent-Teacher Meeting we had a much higher take up by parents.

With this feedback in mind we will continue to build upon this successful experience for Semester 2. Our Semester 2 reporting process will be both written and verbal:

Written Reports

These will include the general school report with indications of student achievement in each curriculum area as well as indications of student engagement in their learning. There will be no general comment by the teacher. The students who have a Personal Plan will also receive the personal plan report describing their achievement against their current goals.

Verbal Reports

Following the written report being distributed teachers will hold Parent-Teacher Interviews with every family to discuss the reports sent home, provide examples of student achievement and talk about goals for next year. These Parent-Teacher Interviews will be via Zoom. If parents do not have the capacity to use Zoom they can contact their teacher to organise a phone conversation or alternative contact. Teachers have provided longer sessions than those in Semester 1 to ensure there is time to discuss your child's needs.

The important times are:

  • Wednesday 25 November (Week 7) - Written reports sent home. 
  • Monday 30 November to Friday 11 December (Weeks 8 and 9) - Parent-Teacher Interviews.

The discussion held at the Parent-Teacher Interviews will  become part of the 'handover conversation' that teachers have at the end of the year when the current teacher speaks with students' 2021 teachers about their learning needs.

At the end of next week the link needed to connect to the Zoom Parent-Teacher Interview will be sent out via schoolzine and email. If you are unable to attend any of the allocated time slots please contact your child's teacher to organise a suitable opportunity to discuss their report.

Relationships between home and classroom are fundamental to children's success at school. We hope that this opportunity to talk about the report with your child's teacher will continue to build this important relationship.
